GEO Content Formatting
For writers and content leads who want their work cited by answer engines, not just crawled.
Definition
Generative engine optimisation is the practice of structuring content so an answer engine can extract, attribute and trust a passage, principally through question-shaped headings, front-loaded answers, self-contained passages and clear attribution.
An AI answered a question in your field this week using somebody else's words. Your article covered it better and was not quoted.
Being cited by an answer engine is a formatting problem as much as a quality problem. This is the structural work that makes a passage easy to lift, attribute and trust.
What you get
- The structural patterns that make a passage easy for a model to lift and attribute
- Question-shaped headings, which is the single highest-impact change most writers can make
- How to write a passage that survives being extracted with no surrounding context
- Attribution patterns that make a claim trustworthy enough to quote
The problem
Why this keeps happening
Answer engines do not read your article the way a person does. They look for self-contained passages that answer a specific question, can be quoted without surrounding context, and carry enough signal to be trusted.
Most good writing fails that test, not because it is worse but because it is built to be read in order. Arguments unfold, context accumulates, and no single paragraph stands alone.
The adjustment is structural and it does not require writing worse. It requires writing passages that survive being extracted, which turns out to make the article better for human skimmers too.
What is GEO Content Formatting?
GEO Content Formatting is generative engine optimisation is the practice of structuring content so an answer engine can extract, attribute and trust a passage, principally through question-shaped headings, front-loaded answers, self-contained passages and clear attribution.
The structural patterns that make a passage extractable: question-shaped headings, self-contained definitions, comparison tables, direct attribution, and the specificity that makes a claim quotable rather than generic.

How it runs
How does GEO Content Formatting work, step by step?
GEO Content Formatting runs in 5 steps: question the headings, front-load the answer, make passages standalone, structure the comparisons, attribute clearly. Each step is described below with what it produces and why its position in the sequence matters.
- 01
Question the headings
Convert section headings into the questions people actually ask. This is the single highest-impact change.
- 02
Front-load the answer
Answer immediately beneath the heading. Buried answers are not extractable.
- 03
Make passages standalone
Each key passage must survive being lifted out with no surrounding context.
- 04
Structure the comparisons
Tables and lists get extracted far more readily than the same content in prose.
- 05
Attribute clearly
State who is claiming what. Unattributed assertions are the easiest thing for a model to skip.

Failure modes
What do people get wrong?
The 4 most common failures are: headings that are labels; burying the answer; passages that need context; unattributed claims. Each one is explained below with why it happens and what to do instead.
- 01
Headings that are labels
Overview tells a machine nothing. A question tells it exactly what the passage answers.
- 02
Burying the answer
If the answer arrives three paragraphs after the heading, it will not be extracted.
- 03
Passages that need context
A paragraph that only makes sense after the previous one cannot be quoted.
- 04
Unattributed claims
A model has no reason to trust or repeat an assertion with no source behind it.

The alternatives
How does GEO Content Formatting compare to the alternatives?
There are three ways to solve this: do it yourself, hire it out, or buy the method. GEO Content Formatting is the third. It costs $25 once, the method stays yours, and you can re-run it without paying again.
| Consideration | Doing it yourself | Hiring it out | This system |
|---|---|---|---|
| Optimises for | A ranked list | A ranked list | Being the quoted passage |
| Cost shape | Your time | Course fees | One payment |
| Helps human readers | Yes | Yes | Yes, skimmers especially |
| Applies to existing work | n/a | Partly | Yes, as an editing pass |
| Measurable | Rankings | Rankings | Citations and rankings |

Questions
Does this hurt readability for humans?
The opposite, in my experience. Question headings and front-loaded answers are what skim-readers want too. You are not choosing between the two audiences.
Is GEO the same as SEO?
Overlapping but not identical. SEO competes for a position in a list. GEO competes to be the passage quoted inside a generated answer. The second rewards structure and self-containment far more heavily.
Is this just a pack of prompts?
No. A prompt is one instruction. This is a production system: the method, the sequence, the failure modes, and the standard for finished work. It is the process I would charge a client for.
Can I use this on client work?
Yes. That is what it is for. Use it inside your own delivery, for as many clients as you like. You are buying the method, not a seat.
Could I not just ask an AI to do this?
You can ask. You will get an average answer, because the model writes toward the middle of everything ever written. Knowing what good looks like in this specific job is the part that took twelve years.
Do I need to be technical?
No. If you can use ChatGPT, you can use this.
What format do I actually receive?
A working skill file you install once, plus a written companion explaining the method so you can adapt it rather than follow it blindly. It runs inside Claude.
What happens after I click buy?
It opens an email to me, already filled in. I reply with a payment link and send the files the same day. Deliberately human, because I want to know who is using these.
Is there a refund?
Yes. If you use it properly and it does not do what this page said, tell me and I refund you. No argument.
