Nanotechnology: The science of the Future

In 2016, three researchers achieved the Nobel for their work on the design of tiny molecular machines. Recently, the World Economic forum also referred nanotechnology as one of the top five leadership priorities of 2017. Imagine a 4000 square feet computer being compressed to a microprocessor having size lesser than 20 nanometres, approximately 100th time the width of your hair. That is the future we are currently living in. Throughout the world, we are experiencing smaller machines, tinier gadgets and more efficient technologies that empower our lives and make it easier and better.

Nanotechnology is a wonderful new technology in which scientists rearrange atoms and molecules of matter to nano specifications. The history of this technology dates back to more than sixty years when it was first proposed by the American Physicist Richard Feynman who delivered a lecture titled ‘There is plenty of Room at the Bottom’. Since then, the idea has inspired generations to pursue research into it. Eric Drexler took the idea forward to where we see it today.

In the past, there have been three major revolutions that have defined our course of history. The agricultural revolution marked the first ever use of machinery, albeit basic, to grow food for survival needs. Later, Industrial revolution resulted in the use of machines made by design. The information revolution brought us close to the use of digital, nanoscale devices, but it was used to process only information, not matter. What is unique about nanotechnology is that it encompasses the earlier three revolutions and combines the benefits of all. It employs artificial, molecular and nanoscale machinery that is used to process matter, real objects, and provides low cost, high value answers to human problems.

Nanotechnology offers amazing prospects to solve the critical problems of scarcity of resources that we face today. Consider the environmental problems that occur due to large scale manufacturing and toxic metal emissions which threaten the global climatic change, nanotechnology can grant us the solution by reducing resource consumption and supply us with infrastructure based on low cost solar energy and carbon neutral technologies. With nanotechnology, you can anticipate treating cancer, overcoming pathogens and virtually reshaping your body free from all pain and diseases. It also opens up the prospect of immortality. Nanotechnology might be the marking point of advancement of human species, much like it was when cognitive revolution separated us from our Neanderthal counterparts, 70,000 years before. It will transform labour, structure of our lives and our existence on Earth itself.

The applications of nanotechnology as a driver to future growth are immense. In the field of medicine, nanoparticles would be able to deliver drugs directly to cells, leading to more effective treatments to diseases. In the field of agriculture, nanomaterials will lead to remarkable difference in the food safety and health benefits that the food delivers. In space, use of more durable and lightweight aircrafts will make long distance space travel more realistic and drastically increase fuel efficiency. Furthermore, nanoparticles are also being developed which will have the capacity to undo the damage to the environment caused by carbon emissions. These nanobots will clean the industrial water pollutants, filter air through a process called ‘mechanical filtration’ and detect and remove chemical and bio-toxic pollutants with higher sensitivity than before. Overall, nanotechnology would lead to better air quality, cleaner air, lightweight cars, performance based products, more energy and more efficient lifestyles.

However, when one puts technology and future together, it offers a wide spectrum of possibilities; possibilities which can advance either ways-good or bad. There arises unanswerable questions and dubious answers, which are left open to the current generations to analyse. What path will such a technology follow? Would it lead us to higher construction or greater destruction? Such question can only be answered by analysing our experience with them in the past. It can be seen that the progress we have today was backed up by the technology of yesteryears, going back to Industrial revolution and then to irons and stones. At every stage, we faced a similar question, but we came out through it on a positive side. With the promises that nanotechnology provides us, we can only hope that it leads us to much better lives.

The Party Tale

Losing That personal Touch!

Technology! Said to be man’s best friend and worst enemy is spreading and developing rampant!

We all have that cell phone in our hands without which we can’t imagine even an hour. We all have laptops with us  to work or to entertain our self.

Day by day this possession of technology is spreading and almost everyone falls prey to it. We become so ridden to gadgets that we don’t care about anything else but getting social on the social media, updating themselves and striving for everyone’s attention there.

The phones and the laptops seem to be our new habitats because rarely we come out of them. We’re just stuck in the social networking, liking others updates, following them, commenting on their updates and what not. We even stalk people online!

It’s spreading so much that even during social gatherings where we meet people face to face, we talk about the social media or we’re just too engrossed in chatting or clicking pictures for the next updates!

The Party Tale

What have we become!? Is this the beginning of something drastic?

best party tale

The human to human touch, the personal touch has been lost, so lost that it’s pretty hard to find again.

We have forgotten to actually TALK and not CHAT. We’ve forgotten to actually have group gatherings and not group texting. We’ve forgotten to really care and we just show it!

For a change, can’t we just go out and enjoy the world with our loved ones! Away from the technology, away from social networks and away from the FAKEISM.

Can’t we just be real?

Daughter, Not Dowry

Daughter, Not Dowry

Indian marriages, or to say, the big fat Indian marriages are famous worldwide, because it’s no less than a huge festival for the two families.

DOWRY QUOTES

The celebration of two families getting tied in a totally new relationship is what spreads happiness throughout the procedure of the marriage.

But our customs and our traditions have gone too far today. There used to be some merry customs of gifting one’s daughter with goodies while she moved to a whole new family and with a new person in her life. It was a way of blessing her to stay happy and satisfied and more than that, parents gifted their daughter with things that she would use for her comfort in the new house that she was going to live in.

But, sadly, this dowry system had taken its ugliest and most haunting form. The groom’s family has their hopes raised higher and higher about whatever their daughter-in-law will bring with her as dowry. They never understand, whatever she would bring, it’s not for them anyways.

Sometimes people fail to understand the feelings of a girl when she leaves her own house and family to join a whole new family which has a whole new ambience for her. Whilst she ADJUSTS in all of this, she is tortured and taunted for bringing no or less of the dowry in many cases.

What about welcoming her with open arms? She left so much for you, can’t you just make her life any simpler by adjusting yourself too? Why is she forced to bring things that she won’t even ever use? Why every time the in-laws fail to overlook the “-in-law” in their daughter-in-law?

Things would be much better if they focus on the daughter that comes in their life and not the dowry.

The World is turning Fancy

the better and simpler

The World is turning Fancy-Disguise the insides!

We all have our idols and we keep following them. The way they look, the styles they adopt and even the way they talk, we follow everything and adopt them in our life styles.

But our idols are great men who’ve achieved great things in life. Even if they’re the actors that play in movies, they have a message to be delivered.

But why do we fancy only their outsides? We should go deeper, think deeper and look for what actually they want to tell us. By adopting the good things that they tell us, that they want to deliver, is actually how we should follow them.

Disguising ourselves as the great men just from the mere outsides won’t help, let’s try and disguise the insides as them too.

They have a lot to teach and we have a lot to learn. Let’s pay heed to the things which are important!

soupforthesoul india

The simpler, the better!

The world is turning Fancy!

It’s all getting glittery and shiny, the glam and the glow doesn’t fail to draw eyeballs. And we’re all sailing the same boat. We all want best products, best brands, best everything to adorn our life. The more we spend on material seems the very first sign of a lavish lifestyle.

But! Does it make us any happier? We are doing so to impress the ones surrounding us. To let them judge who’s better and to let them know what we have and how we spend it.

This doesn’t invite happiness. It just makes us more anxious every time because each time we go out to face those people we need newer things to impress them and to draw their attention and this occupies our mind most of the time so how can we expect peace to come to us!?

Peace only comes when life is less complicated, when we don’t have a race to run and when we don’t care what others think of us.

And that sort of peace is in staying simple. The simpler we stay, the easier our life would be.

Let’s stay simple and humble and let’s not ruin it all in the name of lifestyle!

Gaining knowledge, losing innocence!

Gaining knowledge, losing innocence!

The best thing that adorns a child is INNOCENCE!

If we go down the memory lane, we can’t stop laughing at some memories of us when we knew nothing about the things that are now meaningful to us. We used to assume different meanings of different things out of our creativity, not knowing what exactly they mean!

But what does today’s kids do?

If they don’t know anything, they’ll Google it!

Yes! They are much smarter these days and they’ll dig all the provided information and will know more than what they should! They have a vast knowledge of things!

But they’re losing that precious thing called innocence. Yes! We all know this for a fact that knowledge kills innocence. It might seem good to many that their kids know everything and that they’re smart but is it really good?

They know everything today that they’d have eventually known tomorrow. They just lost innocence to knowledge, the knowledge which would’ve not made a difference if they learned it some years later.

gain knowledge lose innocnce

gain lose innocence

lose innocence gain knowldeg

Let’s save these kids of today from ruining the pace. Please little ones, it’s not a race. Go slow for now as the future will eventually be faster!

Every semester we start fresh

last minute study

Every semester we start fresh

Every semester we start fresh, with fresh determinations and resolve that this semester whatever happens I will study regularly, make proper notes, attend all lectures etc.  These habits last for about 2 weeks after the start of the semester and soon we start bunking a lecture or two, which follows by neglecting the ‘notes making’ resolve and then there remains no sign of regular studies.

And then suddenly there is another shock, the approaching Mid-semester exams! This brings turmoil in the lives of every student. All of a sudden the world goes topsy-turvy and all the joy fades away. The exams hang like swords upon us and we start preparing for the exam just a day before the exam. The truth then dawns upon us that the syllabus is beyond our limit and then we look for the important topics and limit our studies to key points. Doing all this, we appear for the exam.

Whatever be the case whether we pass or fail, ace the class or perform just around the average.  In our minds we are proud that by studying for one night we are able to clear the subject. Be proud of yourself. And Good luck with the results 😀
