The Great Revolution in the Evolution of Technology and AI in 2024
Why do we need smart devices in our life?
In the modern urban lifestyle of today, the technology around us and its uses and benefits are increasing with each passing day. When the trend of having smart devices and smart homes started way back in 2010, no one could have possibly predicted how these devices will affect our lives in the near future, and yet today we are dependent on some smart device or the other for finishing our routine and mundane tasks.
How smart technology has evolved so far?
As mentioned in the earlier introduction paragraph, our first exposure to smart home devices and smart homes in general were from watching YouTube videos in the year 2010, when the technology was just being introduced in the west. Slowly we Indians being the innovative and jugaad friendly ones started thinking about ways in which the same can be introduced to the Indian market as well and before we knew it was 2016 and all types of smart devices were flooded in the market. From a Westerners perspective, the smart home and devices market in India can still look it is in its nurturing days and there is a long way to go; but the fact remains that we Indians are the best people who can use devices at our disposal to its fullest benefits.
Today, we Indians use some smart device or the other to run and keep our most mundane and routine tasks in check, in order to make sure that they are running smoothly. Starting from the use of Smart Watches, Smart Lights and Fitness Bands to see how many miles we have run to the use smart speakers to keep ourselves entertained and even smart home security devices to keep us and our families safe, we have come a long way in implementing these technologies into our routine lives of everyday.
The best smart devices for the Indian Consumer
Being a part of the millennial generation and an avid tech junkie, out of all the options available to us at the click of a button, there are undoubtedly some which are more useful than others. Mentioned below are some of the products, I feel should be in every Indian’s Smart Home. #SmartHomeRevolution
Let’s begin!
Fitness Bands: One of the earliest entrants in the Indian smart devices market, a fitness band is basically a device that helps its user track his or her progress through the various workouts and exercises they do on a daily basis. While there are many offerings in this domain, like Fitbit, Mi Band etc. I personally feel that a fitness band in India needs to be: strong, durable and above all affordable. Considering all these qualities, if we see from the perspective of an average Indian consumer, the line-up by Xiami, the parent organization behind Mi, stands out as the best. With their affordable and sturdy devices like the latest Mi Band 3 and its predecessor, the Mi Band 2, not only has this company lived up its claim of affordable technologies of all, but also won the hearts and trust of millions of Indians.
Smart Wearable: Right after fitness bands, the first product that comes to my mind that every Indian consumer needs to have is a smartwatch. Similar to fitness bands, this product is being offered by many well known companies in the Indian market. Keeping in mind the qualities an Indian consumer looks at when purchasing a smart watch, the latest line up of Apple Watches from Apple Inc. undoubtedly makes the cut. With its superior technology and trendy design, it has captured the attention of millions and made a couple of thousand go “ga-ga” on its features and capabilities. Having a smart watch on your wrist in India gives you access to a number of features, starting from seeing your notifications and updates without ever touching your phone, all the way to calling your loved with a simple tap on the touch screen. With all these features and many more, the smart watch is an offering few can resist.
Smart Speakers: The above 2 smart devices fell into the mobility category, now we will move on to “at home” smart devices. One of the most common things we see in most Indian homes are smart speakers. While they might look like the normal variants from outside, but they come preloaded with a host of qualities which include, voice assistance, news and weather updates, playing music via WiFi, surveillance and much more. Two of the most common offerings in the Indian market, include the Echo Dot powered by Alexa and the Google Home. An initial review of both the devices might get you to believe that they have similar capabilities, but under the hood and with the power of its assistant, Google Home is a much more powerful design. Once connected to your Google account, Google Home gives its users the capability to control every smart feature of their home using voice command. Just say, “Hey Google” and you are good to go.
Smart Security: Last but not the least are Smart Security devices. Having all the above mentioned products, it becomes an absolute must that users take the security aspect of their homes more seriously and these line-up of devices makes that possible. The term is more like an umbrella term, which includes everything from Smart Camera all the way up to smart home security solutions. One among the best offerings in this domain according to me, are the smart doorbells that are widely available and affordable. These devices are not only super easy to install and operate, they come with capabilities that will help you take action before a crime actually takes place. With one of these devices at your disposal, you and your family can see who’s at the door, before opening, thus making sure that you keep unwanted intruders out of your home.
Smart Conclusion :p
The smart devices domain is one of the most rapidly developing domains in India. In the near future, we will see much more advanced devices coming into the market, but for now, the devices we have at our disposal gets the job done, pretty good.
